Endorsements
There are three questions citizens always want to ask their politicians but seldom get a definitive answer. I have worked with Godwin for 15 years and found that he is able to answer them with sincerity, integrity and good track record.
- Do You Really Care About Us?
As a community leader, I have seen Godwin always seeks to understand the concerns of different parties before he wants to be understood. He cares about the residents and makes commitment to explore as much as possible all options until a fair and mutually satisfactory solution is reached. Godwin is not afraid of negotiation to bring forth the best that benefits the City and its residents.
- Can You Really Help Us?
Godwin has the ability to lead well and to restore civility and respect, not only he is a good leader, but more importantly as a great learner. He continues to learn what true governance is through further education and seeking wisdom from others to benefit our City and its future.
- Can We Trust You?
In my experience of working with Godwin, I have learned to appreciate and trust him because he knows what expectation means. He has high expectation of himself to set a good example and he understands expectation always comes with inspection. He has expectation of us residents also to live harmoniously with one another to build our City.
True leadership starts with right perspective, priority, purpose and passion. I trust Godwin will lead Richmond Hill into a great future. I endorse Godwin Chan as the next Regional Councillor of Richmond Hill.
Rev. Sam Chan,

“I’ve known and worked with Godwin over the past 20 years. He has shown a strong commitment to serving our community with honesty and integrity. Godwin was appointed alternate member of Regional Council where he gained experience at the Region of York. With his understanding of both local and regional governance, he is an excellent choice to represent Richmond Hill.”
Vito Spatafora,
Former Deputy Mayor and Regional Councillor
“I worked with Godwin Chan when he was a member of the Library Board and a member of Council. As Library Board Chair my experience working with Godwin was very positive. He was always respectful of others, well prepared, and provided constructive input to Board meetings.
Godwin Chan has served Richmond Hill with integrity for many years and has the personal characteristics and experience that make him my choice for Regional and Local Councillor. I will be voting for Godwin on October 24 and, without reservation, recommend him to you.”
David Bishop, FCPA
Former Richmond Hill Councillor and past Chair Richmond Hill Public Library Board
“The Best Candidate for Regional Councillor : We have known councillor Godwin Chan since he was first elected 15 years ago.
Godwin has always shown respect and appreciation for what makes Richmond Hill characteristically special. His role in saving and protecting the David Dunlap Observatory (DDO) and surrounding lands was immense. During the closure of the DDO in 2007 and the sale of the property in 2008, Godwin's supportive public efforts to preserve this valuable property through the CRB and OMB hearings were pivotal. His collaborative and forward-thinking support allowed for the DDO to be designated as a National Heritage landmark.
On a larger scale, Godwin has been promoting the Yonge subway line extension into Richmond Hill for the past 10 years. His consistent efforts have helped this project move faster.
Godwin is excellent at gathering the community and stoking community spirit, as exemplified by his annual Summerfest celebration every June and New Year celebration every October. Godwin is an active participant in these events, where everyone can get to know him and our valuable community members.
Godwin actively listens to his community, takes requests very diligently and makes them happen. He has always been helping the community develop and grow in various ways. Most recently, Godwin helped place new traffic lights and pedestrian crossways on Bantry Avenue and Red Maple Road where the pedestrian crossing was becoming dangerous. He never overlooks a request for help, no matter how small it may seem to us.”
-Dr. Tuba Koktay, DDO Defenders, Outreach Coordinator
“I fully support Godwin Chan as new Regional Councillor for the City of Richmond Hill. He is a professional, respectful and knowledgeable person to be qualified for the Regional Councillor’s position. As our Councillor, Godwin Chan has done great works to serve our community. He cares about public safety. I appreciate the signs on High Tech Road reminding drivers that Bayview Glen is a Road Watch community that he championed. For over a decade, Councillor Chan has championed tirelessly for extending Yonge subway to Richmond Hill. He deserves our support to lead the City as our Regional Councillor.”
-Allen Pourhashemi, a long-time resident
“As a Neighbourhood Watch captain, I am requesting you all to vote for Godwin Chan in the upcoming Regional Councillor election. Godwin is very helpful in the needs and wants of residents in our Neighbourhood. Whenever I wrote to him on behalf of any one of us, he promptly took up the matter and made sure it was resolved. Godwin is a leader in getting the subway extension to Richmond Hill. He worked tirelessly to get the approval from other levels of government. He is the most experienced Councillor with the longest service among competing candidates. Godwin Chan deserves our support to be the next Regional Councillor of Richmond Hill.”

“Over the past several years, as a director of a Richmond Hill condominium, I have requested assistance for Mr. Godwin Chan, our councillor in solving problems which affect our building and its environs and require intervention form the Town and/or its departments. Mr. Chan accepts all my queries and deals with them in a prompt manner. His referrals to the correct department and his intervention with them always results in positive action being taken. He has shown a total commitment to the town, his ward and its citizens within the greater framework of the Town Richmond Hill. I commend him for his honesty, dedication and work ethic on our behalf.”
-Margaret Hall
“I have known Mr. Godwin Chan since he became a councillor of Ward 6. Mr. Chan is what a community needs, unlike some who gets your vote and forget how he got there. Mr Chan is always there for his constituents. He has responded to every call I made promptly and follows up on issues. For instance, I called the Town many times to clear snow windrow in the winter with no result. However, one call to his office resolved the matter and the windrow was cleared within 10 minutes. He pays attention to you and acts as needed. My family will continue to support him as he has been there for me and my neighbourhood. The reason he has maintained his seat in the municipality of Richmond Hill, is due to his hard work and good work ethics. We really need people like him in council.”
-Chris Dissanayake
“I have known Godwin Chan since our early days together as School Council Chairs at our children's schools in Richmond Hill, working hard to get Richmond Hill's first Catholic High School (St Therese of Lisieux) and fighting hard to get our children back in the classroom during the teacher's strike in the 1990's. Godwin has always been committed to our community, is honest, hardworking and has integrity in all that he does. Godwin's dedication on our Council for 16 years provides him with great experience and will serve our City of Richmond Hill well at Regional Council. I have been part of the Richmond Hill community for 53 years. Let's vote in a Council which holds integrity, honesty and hard work for it's residents as it's highest mandate. Godwin has my vote and needs yours as well!”
-Heidi Kreiner-Ley
“I have known Councillor Chan for almost 20 years. He is a dedicated and honest person. He works hard, representing his constituents. I used to see him rushing from one event to another to support every good cause. He is down-to earth and has demonstrated a practical and modest approach to his responsibilities. He works with various groups – seniors, veterans and those in need, among others. He tries to improve the City’s traffic by promoting public transportation – a horrendous undertaking that is so admirable! Throughout our years of acquaintance, I have observed an unusual characteristic trait about him: he is considerate of charitable organization’s financial difficulties and is always there to offer a hand to support them. That distinguishes him head and shoulder above. After having served four terms with distinction, he certainly deserves your vote!”
